SANYO Electric Co., Ltd. (SANYO) announces that its ‘eneloop solar light’ has won the “Gold Award”, a great honor from the iF Design Awards.
The “Gold Award” is given to the best product of each category which has already won an iF Design Award. The iF Design Awards are internationally recognized, and are awarded not only based on outward design, but also on functionality, environmental consciousness shown, ease of use, and innovation among other comprehensive judging criterion.
An awards ceremony was formally held during the CeBIT Show in Hanover, Germany on March 3, 2009 to publicly announce the winners and present the awards. SANYO products have received iF Design Awards for two consecutive years, both in 2008 and 2009.
The ‘eneloop solar light’ was also selected by Japan to receive an award from Japan’s Good Design 2008 awards.
SANYO has already received high international acclaim for its product concept designs that show consideration for the environment based on its brand vision ‘Think GAIA’, and has plans to continue to develop products with the environment in mind, not only in function and performance, but in concept and design.

About the iF Design Awards
The iF Design Awards are sponsored and selected by Germany’s Hanover Industrial Design Association, and are well known in the design industry. The awards have a long history stretching back to 1953, and were created to publically recognize advanced designs. The iF Design Awards include 6 divisions, of which ‘Product Design’ is included, accepting 2,808 entries from 39 countries around the world, of which 802 were selected for 2009 awards in November 2008. Out of the total products selected, only 50 have been selected as Gold Medal award winners. The award-winning products will be on display at the Hanover Exhibition Center in Germany until August.
