About SANYO
Think GAIA
These days everyone has woken up to the dangers of global warming and all international corporations are talking about green issues and environmental sustainability.
However, at SANYO actions speak far louder than words. SANYO has always had a strong environmental focus, but in 2005 took that a stage further and based the whole corporate philosophy on the concept of 'Think GAIA'
Under this vision SANYO has committed to using its global resources and skills to developing solutions for a sustainable coexistence on earth.
The results are already showing through with the launch of many environmentally friendly products.
For example as is a world leader in solar cell technology, SANYO built the world's largest solar power generator to supply one of its production plants. SANYO has used it's battery technology to develop eneloop – a rechargeable battery that’s so efficient that it comes pre-charged and can be recharged about 1000 times. Not only that SANYO have developed a solar recharger so that the eneloop can charged using photovoltaic power.
What is GAIA?
"Gaia", originally the mythological goddess of the earth, is a concept rapidly catching on today, meaning that living organisms on the earth affect the nature of their environment. Today, faced with global warming and environmental destruction, it is critical that we act now to prevent further damage to our planet. We need to make a choice now. Let’s work together to make a change.
The concept of 'Gaia was first proposed in 1979 by the English scientist J.E. Lovelock. (He had participated in NASA's Mars exploration program during the 1960's). He proposed the idea of earth as a living, green organism where mankind and all living things live in harmony. His recent book 'The Revenge of GAIA' serves as a wake up call and has sparked much public debate.
